Live Music, Open Mic and Laaganan Idol: What Happens After Dark
Sunset is only half of it. Most nights there is live music, and on competition nights the whole place ends up singing. Here is what runs and when.
Most people find us for the sunset. Then they stay, and discover the other half of the place.
Live music
There is live music most nights — acoustic duos through the week, fuller line-ups on Friday and Saturday. It starts once the light has gone, usually around 7 PM, and runs into the evening.
The music is not background. People listen, and they sing along.
Open mic
Anyone can sing. That is not a marketing line — the microphone genuinely goes around, and by the end of most nights it has been passed to people who came up for dinner and had no intention of performing.
One recent guest put it best in a review: "Open mic for all aspiring singers!!!"
Laaganan Idol
Our singing competition runs on scheduled nights and draws contestants from across the province. The standard is higher than people expect.
A guest who came on a competition night and stayed for the whole thing wrote:
"It was the final day of our vacation here in Dinagat Islands, and we were just looking for a random place where we could watch the sunset while having dinner. We didn't expect there to be a singing competition, so we stayed and watched until it ended... we couldn't have asked for a better way to spend our last night in Dinagat Islands."
After the competition finishes, the microphone goes back to the room and it turns into karaoke.
Drag shows
We also run drag shows on scheduled nights. As with the competitions, the line-up changes month to month, so our Facebook page carries the current dates.
Planning around it
If you want the quiet version — sunset, dinner, conversation — come early in the week and arrive before 5 PM.
If you want the loud version, come Friday or Saturday, or on a competition or drag show night. Check our Facebook page for the current schedule, since line-ups change month to month.
Either way, book ahead for the railing tables.
