What Time Is Sunset in Dinagat Islands? A Local's Guide
Sunset in Dinagat falls between 5:24 PM and 6:12 PM depending on the month. Here is when to arrive, where to sit, and what the sky actually does.
People ask us this almost every day, so here is the honest answer.
The short version
Sunset in Basilisa lands between 5:24 PM and 6:12 PM, depending on the time of year. The earliest sunsets come in late November. The latest are in early June. For most of the year you are looking at somewhere around 5:40 PM.
Arrive by 4:45 PM. That gives you time to park, get a railing table, order a drink, and settle before the light starts doing anything interesting.
The part nobody tells you
The sunset itself is not the best bit.
The twenty minutes after the sun drops below the horizon is when the sky actually turns. That is when the clouds catch the light from underneath and go orange, then pink, then a deep blue that photographs beautifully. If you leave the moment the sun disappears, you have missed the good part.
Stay until about 6:15 PM. Order something else. Watch the lights come on across the water.
Where to sit
The railing tables face west over the sea and the islands. They go first on weekends, which is the one genuine reason to book ahead rather than walk in.
If they are taken, the upper deck gives you a wider view of the whole archipelago — less intimate, better for photos and for groups.
When the sky is best
Counterintuitively, a completely clear day makes for a flat sunset. You want scattered cloud. Cloud is what catches the colour and gives the sky depth.
The most dramatic skies here tend to come in the days after rain, when the air is clean and there is still broken cloud around. If you look up in the afternoon and see high wispy cloud to the west, that evening is usually worth the drive.
